There is nothing that matters more to West Coast Network Services than the people who work for it. Keeping them injury-free and healthy is a priority, because it is both the right thing to do and commercially sensible. That is why we invest heavily in staff training and competencies. All members of staff are encouraged to develop a positive safety culture and are rewarded accordingly.
At the same time, the company places great emphasis on the safety, health and welfare of all customers, contractors and members of the public. Again, it is right to do so and makes good business sense. It does this through a strict policy of respecting and complying with all legislative and customer requirements as a minimum, with the firm target of exceeding them wherever possible.
All health and safety policies are supported by continuous review and development of relevant management systems and processes. These have been developed in accordance with HSE HSG 65: Successful Health and Safety Management, with all policies and objectives being implemented throughout the company by all staff, through the adoption of proven health and safety management procedures.
The policy itself is under continuous review and update. Publication and company-wide distribution of the policy underpins an effective organisational structure that identifies health and safety responsibilities across all business streams and levels within the company. Responsible stewardship is ensured by management systems that test, review, moderate and implement on a continuous and robust basis.
We deploy a refined industry-acceptable performance measurement system, calibrated against a series of defined and clear objective standards and key performance indicators. This is monitored to achieve continuous improvement of all service deliverables and is supported by a transparent audit and review process of the company's operations.
The company holds an annual safety conference. Attendance is mandatory for staff, including subcontractors. We are very pleased that our clients also attend and participate in presentations, as well as giving us valuable feedback on our overall contract performance with respect to health and safety.
Success in this area is reflected in the result of a recent external audit by Achilles Verify, which scored our on site health and safety processes at 96.7%, which is above the industry standard.
